Thomas Heise, a major figure in German documentary, takes his camera abroad for the first time to record the final year of a traditional way of life, that of the Kolla tribe in northern Argentina. Nearly wordless and sublimely shot by three photography directors, the film is above all an incomparable sensorial experience. Heise, avoiding didactic discourse, seeks first to immerse the spectator in the daily lives of a people living in harmony with a natural environment that, though harsh, is rapidly vanishing. The incredible final long travelling shot of the tribe arriving in the city has rare emotional force. For a moment, Heise manages to make us see the world in another way.
