They got back on their feet again. It was the only reaction possible to horror, and it was how the survivors of the terrible civil war that ravaged El Salvador from 1980 to 1992 were able to rebuild. Literally. They returned to the site of their razed village and, with admirable dignity, rebuilt it, stone by stone. This exemplary first documentary by Mexican filmmaker Tatiana Huezo, crowned Grand Prize winner at the last Visions du Réel festival, gives these simple, brave men and women the chance to speak. With poetic and impressionistic style, Huezo lingers on the sublime landscape of this lushly overgrown part of the country, juxtaposing past and present to cultivate, ever so gently, the possibility of peace.
