INTERNATIONAL SHORT AND MEDIUM-LENGHT COMPETITION

In Belfast, the urban landscape is being made over at a bewildering rate by unfettered capitalism, and John Clancy is forced to give up his bookstore as a consequence. Surrounded by thousands of unsold books and a cast of colourful characters (a young singer who dreams of TV stardom; a pair of brothers, one a rapper, the other an opera-loving punk), the old bookseller without a bookstore shares cigarettes, tea and his passion for literature. Yellowing books become the symbol of a culture and a voice driven to the brink: those of the poets, subversives and marginal figures of a fast-changing society. With obvious grace and tenderness, Alessandra Celesia and her talented cameraman capture the charm and mystery of a bygone Northern Ireland. Irresistible.
