Inside Lara Roxx (2011)
Canadian feature competition

No matter what kind of cult you’re dealing with – hippie, religious, satanic – how do you fight it? By deprogramming the members, even against their wishes. At least that’s the unshakable opinion of Ted “Black Lightning” Patrick, who started the practice – of dubious legality and undeniable violence – back in the 1970s. What are the true effects of deprogramming? Does it help or hurt? Using the case of his own half-brother, Matthew, who was deprogrammed by Patrick in the 1990s, along with interviews and archival materials, Mia Donovan (Inside Lara Roxx) creates a calm and engaging backdrop, with nervy music by Ramachandra Borcar, for a fascinating and terrifying study of Patrick, now 84, and the real implications of his activities.
